October 23, 2014 – The Santa Cruz Community Health Centers is hosting a College Workshop on Sunday, October 26 from 10:30am to 2:00pm in an effort to promote and demystify the college application process for its teen patients and their families.

The brainchild of Medical Assistant Jose Martinez, a graduate of UC Santa Cruz, workshops will include information on how to pay for college and navigate the admissions process. Mr. Martinez has plans to go to medical school one day and is passionate about encouraging young people who may be the first in their family to attend college.

“In a large part, many of the health disparities that we see in our country are directly connected to education. This series of workshops is a small effort to empower our community to strive for higher education and diminish those health disparities we know”, said Jose Martinez, Medical Assistant.
